The lack of humor. To add to the man-undercover-angst, her boss Leo’s not too fond of Jane right now after the events in Blood Crossso she also has stay-under-the-radar angst. Jane herself is a wonderfully strong character. But since it’s a book, you just get fight scenes, fight scenes, and more fight scenes. The ending wraps this particular issue up well, but only in the afterword. There is so much world building and almost a little to much of the history lessons but all and all I loved it. For that kind of thing, Hunter’s descriptive style works really well. There’s no way that can be integrated into human law.
Can she know how much vampire master Leo is manipulating her life? Every time I thought of Jane after reading this book I just ended up rolling my eyes.

Her deft handling of the vampire mythos, and the exploration of the relationship of Jane and Beast, still fascinates. I could do without the love triangle – the other guy didn’t stand a chance especially with the relationship he was currently in. But there is some flakiness in bloodd where there is enough doubt as to if he MIGHT be a good guy or not?
I also enjoyed a side yelloweock into purification rituals that helped remind Jane of her heritage and help prepare her for her confrontations. She fell in love with the art form.
